Brainsquat Privacy Policy

The BrainSquat iOS app has its own privacy policy.

Who is responsible

Brainsquat is operated by Jimmy Jung (“we”, “us”), who is responsible for the personal information described in this policy and is the privacy officer.

Data that stays on your device

Brainsquat saves the following in your browser’s local storage (localStorage) on your device:

  • game records: scores, personal bests, play history and training levels
  • daily workout progress and your streak
  • settings such as sound, vibration, large text, motion and color-blind friendly colors, plus an age group if you choose to set one

This data is not sent to us. We don’t run a server that could receive it.

You stay in control of it:

  • Back up or move it: on the Your records page, use Backup to copy a code that contains all of the data above, then paste it on another device.
  • Delete it: use Delete all records on the same page, or clear this site’s data in your browser settings. Clearing site data removes everything.
  • Heads-up for iPhone and iPad: Safari may erase a site’s data if you don’t visit it for 7 days. Adding Brainsquat to your Home Screen or keeping a backup code protects your records.

Data we receive

We only receive personal information when you email us: your email address, your message and anything you attach (for example a screenshot or your device model). We use it to reply and to fix problems.

We also use Google Analytics for visitor statistics, so we can see which pages and games are used most and improve the service. Google collects this data for us; see “Google Analytics” below.

Outside services that see your data

Google Fonts (Google LLC, United States)

Brainsquat loads fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com): the display fonts on every page and, on the Chinese pages, Noto Sans SC or Noto Sans TC. When a page loads, your browser asks Google for the font files, and Google receives your IP address and standard browser information such as the browser type and the page that made the request. See Google’s privacy policy.

Google Analytics (Google LLC, United States)

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and games are used most, so we can improve Brainsquat. Each time a page opens, your browser sends Google a cookie identifier, the pages you view and how long you stay, actions on the screen (events such as starting or finishing a game), your approximate location (country and city level), device and browser information, and how you arrived at the site (the referrer). Google says it uses your IP address only to estimate location and does not store it. Google may process this data in the United States and other countries where it has servers. Under our Google Analytics setting, individual visit data is deleted after at most 14 months; after that, only aggregate numbers that can’t identify you remain.

To opt out, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or block cookies in your browser. The games and your records keep working either way. See Google’s privacy policy.

jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net)

The English and Korean pages load the Pretendard font from jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net). jsDelivr receives your IP address and browser information when the font loads, and it delivers files through partner networks in several countries. See the jsDelivr privacy policy.

Gmail for contact emails (Google LLC, United States)

When you send us an email, your email service delivers it over the internet to the operator’s Gmail inbox, where it is stored. Google therefore receives your email address, your message and anything you attach, and may store them in the United States and other countries where it has servers. We use Gmail only to receive and store your emails, and we keep them as described under “How long we keep data”: until your question is resolved, then for up to one year in case you follow up. After that we delete them. If you don’t email us, nothing is sent to Gmail. Email is currently our only contact channel, though, so we can’t answer a question without it. See Google’s privacy policy.

Google AdSense (Google LLC), once ads are switched on

When ads are switched on:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
  • Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland see a Google-certified consent message and can choose whether to allow personalized ads.
  • Children under 13 are not targeted with personalized ads.

Share buttons (KakaoTalk, LINE, X, Threads)

These buttons do nothing until you tap them. When you tap one, that service opens (the KakaoTalk button loads Kakao’s script at that moment), and from then on its own privacy policy applies.

Hosting: Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., United States)

Brainsquat is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any website, the hosting provider that delivers our pages (Cloudflare) processes your IP address, browser information and the address of the page you request each time a page opens, in order to deliver the page and protect the site from abuse. Cloudflare serves pages from data centers in the United States and other countries, usually one close to you, and keeps this data under its own policy. This is needed to deliver the pages, so the site can’t be used without it. We don’t separately receive or keep these access logs. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Cookies and similar technologies

Your game records are kept in your browser’s local storage, not in cookies, because the record features need it.

For visitor statistics, Google Analytics sets first-party cookies under this site’s name (_ga and cookies starting with _ga_). They are used to tell repeat visits from the same browser apart. These cookies are not set for visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland. To opt out, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or block cookies in your browser.

Advertising cookies come from Google and appear only once ads are switched on.

You can block cookies and site data in your browser settings. If you block site data for Brainsquat, the games still work, but your records won’t be saved.

Legal bases (visitors in the EEA and the UK)

  • Legitimate interests: delivering pages and fonts, replying to your messages and keeping the site secure.
  • Consent: personalized advertising.

How long we keep data

  • Data on your device: until you delete it.
  • Emails: until your question is resolved, then for up to one year in case you follow up. After that we delete them.
  • Visitor statistics: under our Google Analytics setting, individual visit data is deleted after at most 14 months. After that, only aggregate numbers that can’t identify you remain.

Other data processed by Google, Cloudflare and jsDelivr is kept under each company’s own policy.

Your rights

You can ask us to show, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to stop using it. Email studiojinnox@gmail.com from the address you used with us. There is no fee.

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you also have the right to data portability, to object, and to complain to your local data protection authority. The data on your device is yours to view, export and delete at any time, without asking us.

Children

Brainsquat has no accounts and never requires your age. The optional age group in Settings stays on your device. Children under 13 are not targeted with personalized ads. Minors should get a parent’s or guardian’s consent before emailing us. If you think a child has sent us personal information, tell us and we’ll delete it.

Security

Pages travel over encrypted HTTPS connections. Records aren’t stored on any server of ours. We keep the personal information we do hold (the emails you send us) to a minimum, and only the operator can access it.

International transfers

Brainsquat is run from Korea. Google, which provides Google Fonts, Google Analytics, Gmail (where your emails to us are stored) and, once ads are switched on, Google AdSense, is based in the United States and also has servers in other countries. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, is based in the United States and delivers pages from data centers in many countries, usually one close to you. jsDelivr delivers files through networks in several countries. These providers may process data in countries where data protection laws can differ from yours.

Changes to this policy

We post every change on this page with a new date. For significant changes, we post the new version at least 7 days before it takes effect.
